Delhi’s High Court was founded in 1966. The High Court held jurisdiction over the Union Territory of Delhi and the Himachal Pradesh. The High Court continued it’s reign over Himachal Pradesh until the State of Himachal Pradesh Act took place and sanction in 1971. The High Court is Delhi’s form of higher judicial government. Delhi has an advanced legal system and constantly improving law enforcement as well. An effective judicial government system makes a city safer developing at a more rapid rate due to minimum obstacles to hinder progress. Having such a prestigious High Court makes Delhi a distinguished city ranking in standard. The High Court keeps the city running smoothly and justice for all people. The High Court was organized originally with only four judges. Chief Justice K.S. Hedge, Justice I. D. Dua, Justice H. R. Khanna, and Justice S. K. Kapur were the original four judges of the High Court. These men are all qualified and certified for the honorable positions they hold. From time to time the sanctioned power of the Judges of this prestigious High Court increases. The High Court consists of 28 permanent Judges and usually around eight extra additonal alternative judges.
The High Court is a great justice system that is always growing to accommodate the changing society in Delhi. Surprisingly there are 5,000 women lawyers practising in various courts in Delhi since 1999. To improve the environment for women lawyers the Delhi High Court is contemplating opening a day-care on the premises for the young children of women lawyers that fall into the age range of zero to three. This new day-care will help the female lawyers to continue working and keep their responsibilities as a mother at the same time. Few courts have this option so it is very impressive that the prestigious Delhi High Court is even considering this generous act.
