There are many tourist attractions in the city of Delhi. Delhi is considered to be one of the most historical capitals in the world. Most of Delhi’s tourist attractions have been declared as World Heritage Sites which add great prominence to the already popular city. The city has so much to offer when it comes to attractions and historical importance. You need more than one day to fully enjoy all of Delhi’s attractions. One of the biggest attractions in Delhi is the compelling Qutub Minar. If you visit Delhi you have to take a tour of this magnificent monument attraction.
The Qutub Minar happens to be one of the tallest stunning brick minaret known in the world. It represents the impressive detailed skill of the Indo-Islamic architects of that decade. Standing at 237.8 feet high the Qutub Minar demands curious tourists to climb almost 400 steps to reach the top. The view at the top of Qutub Minar is breaktaking and worth every 500 INR or $12 in US currency. The building itself is surrounded by exquiste Indian artwork that dates back to 1193. According to Indian history the location of the Qutub Minar was the same place that roughly 27 Jain temples once stood. The first Muslim ruler of Delhi decided to construct the Qutub Minar after being inspired by the Minaret of Jam located in Afghanistan. The Qutub Minar represents not only the might of Islam but it also served as an excellent watch tower against enemies. This tower of victory known as the Qutub Minar was believed to be named after Qutb-ud-din Aibak the first Turkish sultan but some people disagree. There are some historians that believe it was named after the Khwaja Qutb-ud-din Bakhtiar Kaki of Ush in his honor. The Qutub Minar was restored in the year of 1829 and is a major tourist attraction in Delhi today.
